In 1976, the City of Naples named Anthony Park in honor of PFC Charlie C. Anthony.
PFC Anthony was born on February 28, 1946. He attended Carver Elementary School in Naples, FL and graduated from Carver High school in 1965.
He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and received basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He then received orders for deployment to Vietnam, arriving on August 27, 1968. On May 12, 1969, Company C of the 12th Brigade of the America Division engaged the enemy in action near Xuan Thah. Private Anthony, with complete disregard for his personal safety, attacked and killed several insurgents. When Private Anthony and the remainder of his squad tried to prevent enemy soldiers from skirting the flank of their unit, a firefight ensued that caused Private Anthony to be fatally wounded.
His family was presented the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart along with other medals and citations for his service.
