The Smith Softball Complex is named in honor of State Commissioner O.W. “Bill” Smith, for his 32 years of dedicated service to the sport of softball in Nebraska.
Ground breaking ceremonies were held in Hastings on May 17, 1994, to recognize the start of construction on the new softball complex located one mile north of Hastings on U.S. Highway 281. The complex was opened on July 11, 1995.
The facility is one of the finest competition facilities in the Midwest. The facility includes six 300 foot lighted fields, and a playing surface made from the latest weather resistant materials. In addition, the complex includes a second floor restaurant and lounge and open air decks to be used for viewing games.
The softball complex is used exclusively for USA Softball Association events and accommodates state, regional and national softball championship tournaments.
Practices: Starting March fast pitch and slow pitch softball teams may reserve East side fields 5,6, 8. Practices will be scheduled 4-5:30, 5:30-7, 7-8:30. Lights will not be available.
